The overall vegetable supply is relatively abundant, but as a result of nationwide rainfall and localized high temperatures, the price increased. While the overall vegetable price will likely return to regular levels later in the season, in some areas and for some products the short term price may show significant fluctuation.
The central meteorological department has already issued a code yellow warning for high temperatures for two weeks. The high temperatures are expected to last until mid-August. These weather conditions are likely to continue to influence the overall price of vegetables: first, rainfall limits the overall sun hours and may even cause flooding in some areas. This especially affects leafy vegetables and other vegetables that are difficult to store. Their prices fluctuate violently.
Second, when the vegetable production in south China suffers, "northern vegetables travel south". Transport further adds to the cost price, which is visible in the market price of vegetables. However, the overall vegetable production volume in north China was abundant this year. The overall vegetable supply will be better this year than it was last year unless extreme weather conditions continue for a long time. Price fluctuations are likely to return to regular patterns.
