Karel Hermans and Adrie Visbeen respond to Mooy Logistics’ bankruptcy

“Germany is a tough and difficult market for transporters of fresh produce”

Fellow transporters have been shaken by the bankruptcy of Mooy Logistics. “I can’t really say much about it, but I didn’t see it coming and I think it’s quite sad,” says Adrie Visbeen, of the company of the same name in Nieuwe-Tonge, the Netherlands. “I have no idea what’ll happen next. This isn’t a small company. I hope a fitting solution will be found for the people who work there.”

According to Adrie, Mooy’s situation can’t simply be copied to other transport companies. “The situation differs per company, although I should say that Germany in particular is a tough and difficult market for transporters of fresh produce.”

General manager Karel Hermans of Kempen Transport from Venlo confirms this. “After Goes Transport, apparently it’s now Mooy Logistics’ turn. Clients should be scratching their heads. Rising labour costs, toll collection, claims - its like transport companies have turned into a gravy train.”

The bankruptcy of Mooy Logistics was a complete surprise to him as well. “Just like Van Rijn five years ago, Mooy was one of those companies you thought couldn’t fail. As a colleague transporter, I would think it would be a shame if such a renowned company would disappear from the roads. I hope a fitting solution will be found.”
