Chile: Situation of grape sector in Coquimbo is unsustainable

The table grape producers of the region of Coquimbo stated that the economic and productive situation they are facing is unsustainable, after meeting to discuss what measures they should take in the town of Peralillo, in the municipality of Vicuña.

On Thursday, the explained the situation to the Minister of Agriculture, Antonio Walker, hoping that he will manage aid for the sector. If there is no aid, they said, there will be mobilizations in the affected communes.

The production is experiencing its most critical moment due to the drop in international prices and the fall in table grape purchases, which is why they had previously requested support from the authorities.

However, they said, so far the authorities haven't implemented any concrete initiative and have only made promises and expressed declarations of good intentions.
