Schoonbee Landgoed opens HalleluYah Primary health care clinic

This venture all began with the Waitrose Foundation. This foundation is an initiative that collaborates with farmers to better the lives of their farm workers. Waitrose has been the catalyst, from providing the initial funding, to prompting the formulation of Schoonbee Landgoed’s own Waitrose Committee. The purpose of this committee was to establish the true needs of their employees, and from this committee came the request for a clinic.

This location was strategically chosen next to Wag-’n- Bietjie - the transport hub of Schoonbee Landgoed, in order to facilitate easy access for workers and save time and transport costs for employees who want to receive care.

The 250m² clinic boasts the following:

• Waiting area that can accommodate up to 30 persons with away facing seating to facilitate infection control.
• Reception and office.
• Dispensary that carries primary health care medication.
• Sluice room for testing and sterilisation.
• Two general counselling and consultation rooms.
• Observation room to monitor and record baseline vital signs.
• Emergency room with direct outside access to the ambulance entrance.

This world-class independent clinic will enable Schoonbee Landgoed to look after the well-being of their 480 permanent and 1850 seasonal employees, most of who support families. Providing quality health care to these bread winners is aimed at improving the social and economic wellbeing of the entire community.

This is in keeping with Schoonbee Landgoed’s vision for “Unparalleled Quality”, a vision shared by many stakeholders participating in the value chain. They are all concerned with delivering exceptional produce and creating sustainable employment opportunities in the greater Groblersdal area, and South Africa in general. 

The objectives of the HalleluYah Clinic are to deliver primary health care services; manage and refer injuries on duty; and monitor the health of current and prospective employees.

The aim is to develop the clinic to provide counselling for chronic illnesses and to become a pick-up point for chronic medication, offer preventative care and conduct occupational health assessments.
