Jufeng grapes arrive on the market, prospects look good

The overall production volume of Jufeng grapes in the 2018 season is estimated at the same level as last year. Production areas in south China mainly produce greenhouse grapes, while production areas in north China mainly produce open-field grapes. The main reason for this division is that south China has relatively much rain and open-field grapes easily suffer from insect pests and plant diseases. The production volume of open-field grapes in south China would be small, the fruit quality poor, the price even worse, and sales would be slow. It is for these reasons that greenhouse grapes have gradually replaced open-field grapes in south China. The price of open-field Jufeng grapes in south China is now 4-5 yuan [0.58-0.72 USD] per kg, while the price of greenhouse grapes is 7-14 yuan [1.01-2.03 USD] per kg.

The cold current in April influenced the production of Red Globe grapes in north China, but had little influence on the production of Jufeng grapes and other kinds. The overall grape quality is therefore relatively good this year, whether the grapes are greenhouse grapes from the south or open-field grapes from the north. This is the season when people eat grapes, and in the wholesale market various grape varieties compete to increase their market share, e.g. Jufeng, Red Globe, Xiahei, seedless. Xiahei is currently the most popular variety when it comes to sales volume; Jufeng grapes also sell better than last year, their sales volume is large and the grapes sell fast, but the price is relatively low.

Grapes from the north are gradually entering the market and there is still a lot of fluctuation in price and sales conditions. It is uncertain how the market will develop, but there is much competition from melons and other kinds of fruit, so the price of grapes is difficult to predict.
