Colombia sends its first shipment of sweet citrus to the US

After having verified they complied with the requirements established in the Operational Work Plan, the ICA authorized the Caldas, El Tamboral, Canoas Altas, and La Italia farms to export sweet citrus to the United States.

The shipment was dispatched by the Celifrut export company. The shipment of 23 tons is already complying with the cold quarantine treatment in the Port of Barranquilla, which was verified by the quarantine inspectors of the ICA.

"The Colombian sweet citrus fruits can enter the United States market, and that is very satisfying. This is the result of the alliance with citrus farmers. We are going to open more markets for our agricultural products in the world," said Luis Humberto Martinez, the general manager of the ICA.

The shipment that was inspected in the Port of Barranquilla complied with all health requirements and the start of the cold quarantine treatment was done according to the requirements of APHIS, so that the shipment can enter the North American market.

This important achievement is the result of the work carried out by the Ministry of Agriculture and the ICA's Rural Development, which have worked with producers and exporters, to meet the goal of exporting the national sweet citrus to the United States.
