Panama: Exports of bananas to Europe under the Panama Exporta brand

One of Panama's most emblematic and coveted fruits around the world, will now reach international markets under the Panama Exporta country brand. The Cooperativa de Servicios Multiples Bananera del Atlántico (Coobana) will send 1,100 boxes of bananas to the European continent, mainly to Belgium, Italy, England, and Switzerland.

The company, which has more than 560 hectares of bananas in Changuinola, Bocas del Toro, now has the support of the country brand to export their products more strongly to Europe and other regions of the world. This would be the 23rd company to market its products under this program.

Eduardo Enrique Carles, the Minister of Agricultural Development, and associates of Coobana visited the 72 Miraflores farm where the product was first stamped with the country brand.

Carles reiterated MIDA's commitment to provide all the necessary support to strengthen banana production and exports in the province of Bocas del Toro.

"The Panama Exporta program is providing a platform for companies that want to expand their coverage in the international market. The opening of the agricultural commerce office in Rotterdam will allow us to boost our producers' exports on a larger scale," he said.

The minister said they would open a second agricultural commerce office in Shanghai, China, by the beginning of 2019, to strengthen the presence of Panamanian products in the Asian continent.

So far, some 90 companies throughout the country have signed up for the Panama Exporta program. This project has allowed exports to increase by 10% during the first months of 2018.
