Plums have great development potential in China

Plums are not a common fruit in the marketplace, even though they have great nutritional value and taste delicious. The price of plums depends on many different aspects. The scale of plum production in China is still small and domestic markets depend on import.

Plums

The average price of plums is around 55 yuan [8.04 USD] per 0.5 kg (for reference only), but of course the price varies in different regions. The price further depends on the production area, product quality, and whether the plum is domestic or imported. The plum market is currently a fresh fruit supply market.

Plums

In the last few years, large supermarkets in Beijing usually put 6 plums (300-500 grams) in one box with a retail price of 26-30 yuan [3.80-4.39 USD]. This is 3-5 times more expensive than high-quality domestic apples. The price of fresh plums is much higher than other fruits.

Plums

A good harvest produces about 2000 kg of plums per 0.07 hectare, and at the market price of 5 yuan [0.73] per 0.5 kg the average yield per 0.07 hectare is 2000 yuan [292.53 USD]. In the supermarket, however, the production volume of 0.07 hectare sells in supermarkets for more than 20,000 yuan [2,925.30 USD]. At the moment, however, only production areas in Xinjiang produce plums on a large scale.
