On 1 May, Israeli producer, Gaia Herbs, opened a European sales office in ABC Westland in Poeldijk, the Netherlands. Patrick Stoffels has been appointed as General Manager. Gaia mainly focuses on the production of herbs. They, however, also have exotic fruits such as pitahaya, figs, and Buddhas Hand in their assortment. Besides the Israeli products, this company also has direct lines to growers in Kenya and Tanzania.
"We opened a European sales office in order to intensify our contacts with European clients", says Patrick. Gaia Herbs has office space at the Westland Gate at the entrance of the ABC site. Loading is done at the nearby Veleka Logistics. "We offer a wide range of products. We keep the lines short and also have stock in the Netherlands."
At first, Gaia Herbs intends to focus on wholesalers. "The herb business is mainly focused on the German, Dutch, Scandinavian, and French markets. Fresh herb consumption is also increasing in Eastern European countries. These include the likes of Lithuania, Poland, and the Czech Republic", explains Patrick.
Trade is going full steam ahead at the moment. "We currently have a good supply of Israeli basil, of which we have ample stock. Chives, on the other hand, are scarce. The fig season has also started. However, clients can also easily come to us for yellow courgettes or Habanero peppers ", concludes Patrick.
