Reemoon celebrates opening first Australian citrus sorting line
The machine has been installed by a company called Keenan Produce, a citrus grower and exporter based in Griffith. The company sells first tier premium oranges to high-end markets such as Korea and the US.
“Far Eastern markets such as Japan, Korea and China demand the best quality oranges from Australia. The client who has our machine has been installed is exporting chemical and fungicide free oranges to Japan. In addition, none of the company's citrus crop has been waxed. The sizer that we have installed, sorts by colour, diameter and by external appearance. Australian citrus is generally sweet, so no need to sort on sugar levels. Having a flawless peel is the key for fruits exported to these high-end markets. Only the best pieces are selected for shipment,” explains Hill Zhou of Reemoon.
“This is the first machine we have installed in Australia. In South Africa we achieved rapid growth by word of mouth marketing. We hope to be able to do the same here. We have heard from our client that already some other growers have visited the farm to look at the new machine. At the moment the Australian citrus season is in full swing, so most developments will be planned for the coming season.”
In addition to its new line in Australia, Reemoon has sold and installed machines in South Africa, Egypt, Cyprus, India, Israel, Korea and Spain. A team from Reemoon will be visiting Spain in July for a company presentation and trial runs of one of its newly installed machines in that country.
