Spain: Anti-humidity filter for the absorption of ethylene in trucks and warehouses

Ethylene-absorbing filters are systems designed to trap this gas, which causes fruits and vegetables to ripen. The filters manufactured by Keepfresh require air circulation and are designed for spaces not greater than 80-100 m³, which is the usual size of refrigerated trucks or containers. In the case of Keepfresh, its filters have the capacity to absorb more than 4.5 litres of ethylene.

"Our filter contains an ethylene absorber inside which is formulated on a pure, non-extruded support," explains Felipe Expósito Ferrero, manager at Keepfresh. Moreover, it also allows for a greater air flow than other filters.

This anti-humidity filter features a very breathable and liquid repellent protector; that is, "we could fill a bag with water and after emptying it, it would be dry, since air goes through it faster than through the plastic micro grids used by other companies, given the lower humidity," explains Expósito. The main advantage of this filter is that it guarantees the operation of the ethylene absorber in conditions of high humidity inside the containers or trucks. "The water present in the air of the refrigeration system will not come into contact with the potassium permanganate, which is the main component of the absorber, and in turn, with the products on the top of the load, which are the ones that are usually tainted," comments Expósito.

The brand, which along with its patents belongs to the company BLUE TECK SYSTEMS, S.L., is currently working with distributors that set the product's prices in the market. In any case, it is already distributed in countries such as China, Peru, Argentina, Chile, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Bulgaria, Turkey, Greece, the Balkans, Russia, Italy and Morocco.
