Brandenburg: 23,000m² for the production of edible mushrooms in 2016

In 2016 there were five companies in Brandenburg which produced edible mushrooms on at least 1,000m² each. According to the Statistics Office Berlin-Brandenburg, the production area covered about 23,000m².

One year prior it was 26,000m². Among the most important edible mushrooms are, besides button mushrooms, shiitake and oyster mushrooms. Mushrooms are harvested several times a year. Therefore, the so-called harvest-area is a lot bigger than the production area and covered 363.000m². In 2015 it was 354,000m². In the production of Germany, Brandenburg's share was around 12%.

In 2016, 7,660 tons of edible mushrooms were harvested. 11% of the mushroom production in Germany. In the year prior, Brandenburg's share was 12%, as the production in the rest of Germany was low.
