Plantation was shifted to the first fortnight of April in the Centre West where the conditions were good and the soil was dry. In general, weather conditions were good at the start of the season, before the frost at the end of April. Crops show a slight advance this season.
Volume will depend on the weather and fruit setting conditions. Catherine Taussig, Director of Aprel, says that “French melons will be present as of the end of April in heated greenhouses, mid-May in large non-heated greenhouses with a peak in production on the 20-25th May. Harvest of tunnel crops is expected around the 25th May, but will depend on weather conditions over the month of May”.
