rPETeCO: multi-functional packaging
rPETeCO appeals as much to the soft fruit and fresh produce sectors as it does to meat, fish, dairy and bakery – in fact all food and non food sectors. rPETeCO adds luxury and is a new and innovative material for brand owners and retailers alike looking for added value in their packaging. 2014 was a striking year for rPETeCO with no less than 7 packaging awards including a top UK Starpack Award culminating this year, 2015, in a pre-eminent sustainability award as a World Star global winner competing amongst over 60 countries.
Bottling out for sustainability
Holfeld Plastics, part of Waddington Europe, use 20% less plastic bottles to blend their rPETeCO material – only 8 out of 10 bottles are used. In 2013 Holfeld produced 43.2 tonnes of rPETeCO trays. If the manufacturer had used rigid PET that would have equated to 52.68 tonnes. Holfeld therefore saved 8.78 tonnes of material in the process. rPETeCO is made from 90% recycled plastic bottles, each bottle weighing an average of 20gms or approximately 50,000 bottles to the tonne. During 2013 Holfeld used 439,000 less waste plastic bottles to produce their rPETeCO trays than they would have done producing rigid PET.
