Relief for citrus fruits and kakis

Spain: Rains have caused more good than harm in Valencia

The Valencian Association of Farmers (AVA-Asaja) has stated that, for the time being, the rains that started on Saturday in the Region of Valencia "have caused more good than harm to the agrarian sector" and in the "vast majority of districts, it has brought some relief for fruit trees."

According to a statement from AVA-Asaja, the crops "that have been most benefited have been citrus fruits and kakis, as the rains will contribute to the calibers improving in the current campaign, as well as to cleaning the trees and reducing the presence of pests and diseases."

Likewise, the persistence of rainfall is allowing the owners of irrigated farms to save in energy costs by stopping irrigation at a time of the season when the trees need a lot of water for the fruits to develop.

The damages to crops and infrastructures are "quite limited," according to the statement from AVA-Asaja.
