Day three Asia Fruit Logistica

Foundations laid in Chinese market

Friday, the final day of Asia Fruit Logistica 2018 and as expected the quietest day of all. However, a lot of exhibitors from various countries say that it seems quieter than last year. It must be said that the people who are visiting, are often genuinely interested and here to do business.

It's noticeable all Latin American countries and Spain are waiting for the protocols to open the Chinese market. Everyone exports to the Asian market and Hong Kong itself but are waiting and sometimes depending on China to open. Some exporters say it would even be good for the bigger volumes which are in oversupply for example, avocados and pomegranates to Europe this year.

In general, the French exhibitors had a good time at the exhibition, although no-one was too busy. Most of them confirm they established new contacts. Several exhibitors are interested in increasing their apple exports to the Asian market. This requires sweet varieties; sweeter than the ones available in Europe.

At the Asia Fruit Logistica you sometimes also encounter special fruit varieties. For example, Wuhan Zero One Management Co., Ltd imports finger limes from America and Australia to China. This is quite a special product, it can be eaten directly or combined with cocktails or dishes such as sushi or oyster. Another special fruit is the apples from Kanghui Group branch Chinapple Co., Ltd. Ali introduced us to the sticker apples. These apples have a small picture on top, he explained that when the apples are still white they put a sticker on top and then when the sun shines on the apple, the other part becomes red and a picture appears. The most popular pictures are `Happy Christmas` and `Happy Ramadan'.
