The workers of the La Cuba company, in Ciego de Avila, harvested a record 108 thousand quintals of plantains in July this year, the highest figure in the 25 years of the entity.
The record was set by one of the brigades of the 1,890 workers that the company has in the municipality of Baragua, 423 of which are women who work in different jobs, according to agricultural specialists.
The producer's goal was to assure there was enough plantain to ensure the shipment of this vital food to several Cuban provinces.
We had never harvested such a big volume in 31 days. The volume was so big that we needed more transportation to get the food to the corresponding agricultural state markets and to the tourism sector, said one of the producers
The collective led by Carlos Blanco Sanchez supplies vegetables, citrus grains, vegetables, fruits, seasonings, and canned products to 274 tourist facilities in the country. All of the products go through the hands of women in charge of the industry, processing centers, and the women that work the fields.
Cold chambers for fruit ripening, irrigation systems of optimum efficiency, and business organization result in salary increases, comfortable housing, schools, doctor's offices, warehouses, sports areas, electricity, and other benefits.
