"Organically degradable plastic packaging isn't preferred"

Recently there has been a discussion as to whether and how the use of organically degradable plastic packaging offers opportunities for producers and importers who bring packaged products on the market. The Kennisinstituut Duurzaam Verpakken (Knowledge institute of Sustainable Packaging) has heard about this from many companies, as there is a lot of confusion.

When organically degradable plastic ends up with other plastic waste, it can influence the recycling. This is why organic plastic has to be thrown away with general waste, not food and garden waste or plastic.

The KIDV sees opportunities for organically degradable plastic if it offers an integral advantage combined with the product. An advantage could be that more food and garden waste is collected, such as with stickers on the fruit.
