Sustainability initiative against food waste

Hofer relies on 'crooked vegetables'

Hofer continues to fight against food waste. They are now selling crooked cucumbers, dented peppers and other crooked vegetables under the brand 'Krumme Dinger'. The awkward looking products are clearly marked, so that the end user can consciously choose these alternatives in the fruit and vegetable shelf.

Sustainability in focus
As part of the "Project 2020" sustainability initiative, Hofer has long been committed to optimal food utilization. True to the motto 'I like it completely', some measures were already developed in 2014. The Austrian retail chain, for example, relies on precise volume planning and residual quantities, as well as clear labelling and price concessions so that products are consumed as much as possible until the best before date is reached.

In addition, products are on offer that can be sold quickly. Instead of using a computer system, experienced employees put out orders that ensure that surpluses are avoided.
