Turkey: Heavy rain damages grapevines in Manisa

Heavy rains in Manisa, Western Turkey, have caused significant damage to grapevines. The growers have requested that heavy rain should be a part of their insurance policies from this point on.

Growers were already struggling to deal with the grape berry moth and had started harvesting early to save their crops from this moth. However rain caught them unprepared and some growers estimate that they have lost 50% of their production.

The growers have asked for the assistance of the state to convince insurance companies to include rain damage in their agricultural insurance coverage policies.
