Significant increase of Egyptian agricultural exports to Russia
Egypt has significantly increased its agricultural exports to Russia, with experts reporting a positive trend in the supply of such goods, says www.zol.ru quoting the head of the Egyptian Parliamentary Committee on Agriculture, Hisham al-Hassy.
Four years ago, Russia banned imports of some agricultural products, raw materials and foods from the US, the EU, Canada, Australia and Norway. The ban included meat, sausages, fish and seafood, vegetables, fruits and dairy products.
"We strive to take advantage of Russia's counter-sanctions against the European Union, as the Russian market is the most important for Egypt, along with China," said al-Hassy.
Between September 2017 and May 2018, Russia has become a major buyer of Egyptian vegetables and fruits. During this period, Egypt supplied Russia with agricultural products worth more than $ 307 million.
At the same time, according to al-Hassy, the supply of agricultural products to Russia in 2018 may increase by 25% compared to 2017. "Obviously, the demand for fruit and vegetables is growing," he said.
According to him, Egyptian producers have significantly increased the supply of grapes and mandarins.
He also reports that during the forthcoming parliamentary session, a number of laws aimed at increasing agricultural exports will be discussed.
