Online supermarkets have not yet offset 'free' tomatoes

Greengrocers can get tomatoes and cauliflower virtually for free from wholesalers. However, these low market prices are currently not clearly reflected in the online shops of the largest Dutch supermarkets, Albert Heijn (AH) and Jumbo (EUR1,99/500g). Truss tomatoes are less expensive at Plus (EUR1,07/500g). In Belgium, tomato prices are much lower. However, there, they are sold per kg. The supply is also less varied. Today, PLUS supermarkets are putting tomatoes on special offer: EUR0,49 per kg. Tomatoes have been on special at Hoogvliet shops in the Netherlands since Tuesday - 5kg of truss tomatoes for EUR2,49.

Cauliflower has gone on sale at Jumbo, AH, PLUS, and the discount chain, Dirk. Also, not surprisingly, organic cauliflower is on special at Dirk.
