Colombian pineapples bound to Argentinian market

For the first time, Empresa Colombiana is venturing into the Argentinian market with pineapple exports.

"Colombia's consolidation as an important producer and exporter of agricultural products worldwide is an indisputable fact. Our company has been establishing itself in new destinations and we have consolidated as pioneers in the export of Colombian MD2 pineapples to the Argentinian market," says Gustavo Barona, General Manager of Bengala Agrícola.

The company Bengala Agrícola announced the first shipment of MD2 pineapples, also known as Gold Honey, to the Argentinian market.

According to Mauricio López, Director of Operations at Bengala Agrícola, "our country managing to gain access to a market as important as Argentina is a very important milestone."

Mauricio explained that these commercial agreements are making it possible to export MD2 pineapples under already defined strategies and meeting all prospects. Bengala will become the first Colombian company to export this product to Argentina after having met all requirements and undergone the standard processes.

The priority for Bengala Agrícola is to supply an exportable product, and to this end, it has a team of experts that are achieving optimal results in terms of quality, according to Gustavo Barona.

Bengala Agrícola has its MD2 pineapple plantation in the Hacienda Manantial, owned by Castilla Agrícola and located south of the department of Valle del Cauca. This farm has all the characteristics to guarantee the success of the production process

General Manager Barona mentions the fact that, at present, Bengala Agrícola owns a high-tech pineapple packing plant that allows it to supply the national and international markets. Moreover, and in order to guarantee the quality of its products and processes, it has the necessary quality assurance technologies to meet national and international certification standards, which are required to gain access to the various markets.

For Bengala Agrícola, the market, its customers and the needs of the final consumer are determining factors. This motivates them to remain at the forefront, permanently researching and gaining knowledge about the market and consumer trends worldwide, seeking to innovate and develop new products in order to stand out. "We want to offer our customers products with added value that preserve their original organoleptic characteristics and that are ready to be consumed or cooked. This is one of the current guidelines within the convenience products category."

The processing plant of Bengala Agrícola is located in the municipality of Pradera, Valle del Cauca, and carries out the sorting, packaging and cold storage of fresh fruit.

Each MD2 pineapple container is used to ship 20 tonnes of the fruit. It is packed fresh, in 1,600 boxes weighting 12 kilos each.

Gustavo Barona says that export agriculture is currently a sector with great potential, according to the macroeconomic indicators.
