"The Italian grape season started off very well. From 20 May, we have had mainly Italian grapes in stock", says Guido Heerman of the Belgian company, Guido Fruit. They offer both seeded and seedless grapes throughout the Italian season. "Nowadays we trade more in seeded grapes. However, the seedless varieties are not lagging behind. This is, in part, thanks to the improved varieties that have come on the market in recent years. Currently, the supply and demand for grapes are fairly stable. It is business as usual. Prices are also normal for this time of year."
Guido Fruit specialises in Italian grapes. These grapes have had very little competition from the Egyptian grapes. "Italian grapes have a distinctive taste", says Guido. Guido Fruit works with growers in the Puglia region as well as those from the island of Sicily. "The same varieties are cultivated in both areas. Yet, we see that grape lovers prefer those from Sicily rather than those from the mainland", concludes Guido.
