Heavy rainfall in Chinese provinces

Last Sunday, news agency Xinhuanet reported that this week heavy rainfall would hit the provinces of Sichuan, Gansu, Shaanxi, Guangdong and Hainan, it had rained continuously the previous week. Xinhuanet reported that almost 100,000 residents of Chongqing Municipality were temporarily evacuated because of a flood peak passing the city. Furthermore, South China Morning Post also reported that this week torrential rain in northern part of China caused many problems for traffic and to roads.

According to some farmers in Chongqing Municipality, “The heavy rain did not really affect our crops. It mainly had an impact on the residents in the city center. Furthermore, the rainfall this week was much heavier in Chengdu than it was in Chongqing. The weather is now constantly changing, when it stopped raining, it suddenly became very hot. For now it is still ok, but if the heat is going to continue like this, we will have to start irrigating our land.”

Another farmer from Chongqing said, “The rainfall this week was normal and not extreme. The rain did not affect our fields, though the weather that we have to endure now is the heat.” It seems, the heavy rainfall did not cause a lot of problems for the farmers in Chongqing, though the residents of this city had to endure a lot of problems. The extreme weather conditions might continue this week, since more hot weather and rain is expected by the weather forecasters.
