Adolfo Toledo Infanzon, the delegate of SAGARPA in Oaxaca said that the state of Oaxaca produced quality fruit and was currently the country's third biggest exporter of mango to the United States, with more than 36,000 tons. It was only surpassed by Sinaloa and Michoacan.
The federal official said that in 2018 Oxaca had exported 2,107 more tons of mango than last year, which means that it has a good quality and safe product, which is why it has a great demand in the neighboring country.
He stressed that this important achievement was achieved thanks to the important work carried out by the SENASICA personnel to reduce the number of larvae and the presence of fruit flies in the farms. He also added that 1,049 orchards had been registered this year.
"In 2018 the SAGARPA allocated through SENASICA more than 8,150,000 pesos, which were dispersed strategically and allowed us to obtain these excellent numbers that benefit the producers and their families, as well as the state's economy," Toledo Infanzon stated.
According to him, the sector has gradually but steadily grown since 2008, when there were only 245 orchards registered and exports amounted to 7,085 tons of mango. Year after year exports increased by 3 to 5,000 tons until achieving the current export volume.
