Green apples are an early-season apple variety. The current production areas are in Shanxi and locally in Henan. Shanxi green apples have been on the market for one month and will continue for another month. Shanxi green apples ripen relatively early and their retail period is long. Local green apples have only been on the market for half a month and they are already in the final stage of the retail season. Their supply period is relatively brief, but they are sold directly from the farm to local supermarkets. They are not stored in refrigerated warehouses.
There is very little difference in quality between Shanxi green apples and local green apples, which means that the price is also similar. Shanxi green apples currently sell for 3.2 yuan [0.48 USD] per kg (transport cost is relatively high), while local apples sell for 3 yuan [0.45 USD] per kg. The price of Shanxi green apples is expected to increase slightly when local green apples leave the market as overall supply then decreases.
