"There will be a reduction in Gansu apple production, but to what extent isn't clear"

"The Fuji apple season in Gansu Province kicks off in October each year and is expected to last until around June the next year. This year, it was affected by several extreme climates, including the cold of April 6-7 and the hail days ealier. Apples in some production areas in Gansu have severely reduced production, and some areas are even facing zero production. In general, it is difficult to determine the extent of the reduction in production. However, the reduction of production is certain. As the result, the price of Fuji apples should increase compared with that of previous years," according to Zhang Dingyu of Jingning County KINGO Industrial CO.,LTD.

Fuji Apple

"The company has more than 3,000 acres of apple planting bases in Gansu, of which 1000 acres are self-owned bases; more than 2,000 acres are cooperative control bases, and the planting varieties are mainly Fuji apples. At this stage, through traditional sales models and Taobao, AliBaba's international websites and other e-commerce platforms, our fresh fruit is sold to wholesale markets and supermarkets in domestic first- and second-tier cities under the brand 'Golden KINGO IMPRESSION'. It is also exported to Russia and other countries in Southeast Asia."

"In addition to fresh fruit, we also supply fermented pulp to the market under our own brand 'DU'. For processing products, we only sell in the domestic market at this stage, but we are also actively seeking export opportunities in overseas markets when the time comes."

"From the perspective of consumption level, China's consumption level is much higher than that of Southeast Asia. Considering this difference, we ship the products with larger specifications and better quality to the domestic market. Those small apples and lower quality ones are exported to the Southeast Asian market. In the past few years, the export volume of Chinese apples has fallen sharply since the import ban was imposed by India, a major export destination for China. This has caused huge losses for Chinese exporters. In the face of this situation, we have actively challenged the structure of overseas markets and turned to countries with few trade barriers for export."
