Tim Putters, RIda Trade:

"Empty ginger market - prices are rocketing"

After the market for ginger was oversupplied in recent weeks and with Chinese product being dumped on the market for low prices, the situation has now changed. "The market is emptying and the price is rocketing," says Tim Putters of Rida Trade from Poeldijk. The Chinese garlic shows an opposite trend, with their prices dropping.

The sales of ginger in Europe are rising every year, including with Rida Trade, which grows its own ginger in the Chinese Shandong. "We expect to import around 650 containers of ginger this years," says Tim. Rida Trade also has organic ginger in its assortment. There is no competition from other production countries yet. "The harvest in Peru is about to start, but it isn't on the market yet."
