China: Fresh peach prices hit low point

Fresh peaches have only been on the market for a month and the price has already fallen to less than 1 yuan [0.15 USD] per 0.5 kg. These peaches have been bought by pedlars at a buying price of 2.6 yuan [0.39 USD], while these same pedlars now sell them at 2.5 yuan [0.38 USD] in the street. Their retail price is lower than their buying price, and still there are not many people who buy them.

Street peddlers sell fresh peaches at a slight loss

The peach crop developed well this year and the fruit is relatively large, but the orchards suffered from frostbite when the trees were in bloom. Another reason that farmers did not earn more from their peaches was a saturated market. These peaches came from Yimengshan, which is an important peach producing area.
