Sustainability Weeks at Landgard as a sign of the company-wide sustainability strategy

Focus on alternative packaging, fair products and environmentally friendly concepts

In early September, Landgard will be even greener than before, at the second company-wide Landgard Sustainability Weeks at all warehouse and administrative locations and in all cash & carry markets. Together with employees, customers and partners, from 3 to 23 September the producer cooperative will show the many faces of Landgard's sustainability all over Germany.

The focus is on projects within the four pillars of the Landgard Sustainability Strategy "Green Products", "Climate, Energy and Environment", "Employees" and "Society", that will provide intelligent answers to urgent environmental and social problems.

"Today's understanding of sustainability is over 300 years old - and will certainly continue for the next 300 years. But what changes again and again are the focal points of sustainable activities. Last year, for example, biodiversity of flora and fauna and the use of certain chemical pesticides were the topic of discussions. This year, everything revolves around issues such as packaging and minimizing the use of plastics, increased nitrate levels in groundwater, and working conditions in southern Europe and third countries," says Dr. Svea Pacyna-Schürheck, Head of Quality and Sustainability Management at Landgard.

At the Landgard Sustainability Weeks in 2018, too, many events will revolve around these sustainability aspects, which are currently being discussed at great length. For example, at various locations Landgard will show how plastic packaging can often be replaced by intelligent and more sustainable alternatives. The spectrum ranges from fruit and vegetable trays made of vegetable fibres or recycled materials to flower trays made from waste paper to natural branding. With this innovative process, it is possible to laser a label directly onto the skin of certain types of vegetables (such as pumpkin or sweet potatoes) thus completely avoiding any form of packaging.

Landgard makes an important contribution to improving working and social conditions in the country of origin of many of its products, like with certified Fair Trade bananas. Furthermore, sustainable concepts, cooperation with well-known associations and NGOs, alternative plant substrates and activities such as the collection "Deckel gegen Polio", vegetable boxes for employees and numerous other highlights will complete the very diverse program of the Landgard Sustainability Weeks 2018.

The start of the Landgard Sustainability Weeks will be at the spoga+gafa 2018 in Cologne. In Hall 5.1, Landgard will showcase numerous products and ideas that will make the world a bit greener, more sustainable and at the same time more beautiful.
