New Potato Market - Lower Austria KW27/2018

Plentiful supply of new potatoes, even in dry areas

The Austrian new potato market is largely stable and unchanged from last week. Despite rain-related harvest interruptions, there is a plentiful supply of goods available for the consumer. The yield per hectare remains unusually large.

Dry areas continue to report 20t/ha, while in regions with more precipitation, yields of up to 45 tons are not uncommon. The sales in the food retail trade were quite good in the last week. With the beginning of the holidays in the East of Austria, demand is likely to drop again somewhat in the near future. Producer prices were able to hold their ground at last week's levels. In Lower Austria, Burgenland and Styria, 20 euros were usually paid at the beginning of the week.
