Chile's pomegranate export season ends with a slight drop
The President of the Association of Fruit Exporters of Chile, ASOEX, Ronald Bown Fernandez, said that the pomegranate export season had come to an end with 5,580 tons exported, i.e. 2.05% less than in the previous season.
Bown said the main export market continued to be North America, with 54.7% of total exports, followed by Europe with 42.7%. These two markets account for 97.4% of pomegranate exports.
The Far East, which in the last season only imported 3 tons of this product, ranked third with 1.3% of total exports (i.e. 73 tons). Latin America ranked fourth with 0.8%, the same as last year, and the Middle East, which last year ranked third with 3.7%, fell to the fifth position with 0.6% of total exports.
At the regional level, the III and IV regions had the largest share in the volume exported, with 46.5% and 45.9%, respectively, while the VII region accounted for 6.3% and the metropolitan region for 1.2%.
The leading exporters were Unifrutti with 659,540 boxes, Agricom with 170,277 boxes, Rio Blanco with 96,938, San Clemente with 74,230, and Exportadora Subsole with 30,386 boxes. These 5 companies accounted for 46% of the total volume exported from Chile.
