Peruvian avocados take an important step towards South Korea

A delegation from the Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency (APQA) of South Korea met with the Minister of Agriculture, Gustavo Mostajo, and the head of Senasa, Roberto Acosta, to share their conclusions after having visited the country's avocado crops and packing facilities.

The goal of their visit was to verify Senasa's phytosanitary certification system for the export of this fruit to the international market.

The Korean delegation consisted of two APQA agricultural experts, Boo-Ja Lee and Yong Hyeon Lee, who, together with professionals from Senasa, visited Hass avocado orchards and packing plants in the regions of La Libertad and Ica.

This visit is the final part of the pest risk analysis carried out by the Korean authority to allow the access of Peruvian Hass avocados to this market.

Orlando Dolores, the director of Plant Quarantine, and Javier Layme, an export specialist of Senasa, were also present in the final meeting with the experts from the APQA.

The APQA representatives expressed their agreement with the work being carried out by the Minagri, through Senasa, for the control of pests that are of concern for Korea.

The Korean authority will now have to elaborate a phytosanitary protocol and the establishment of internal regulations to allow the export of this fruit into that market.
