China: Peach prices increased by 20%

Data from the Ministry of Agriculture shows that China's fruit import volume increased by approximately 20% in the first quarter of 2018 in comparison with the same period in the previous year, while the value increased by 49%. The average wholesale price of peaches in the Xinfadi Market currently is 3 yuan [0.45 USD] per 0.5 kg. The price increased by 20% in comparison with the same period last year. This is because the peach trees suffered from an unexpected springtime cold spell when they were in blossom. This resulted in a low rate of mature fruit, and this decrease in production volume caused a price increase.
