The important pomegranate production areas in China are in Sichuan, Yunnan, and Henan. Yunnan production areas are generally located at an elevation of 1500 meters or more. The climate at that elevation gives Yunnan 'Tunisian soft seed pomegranates' a higher sugar content and larger fruit bodies. In addition, the production areas are relatively far to the south, which means that the fruit matures early and enters the market earlier than similar fruits from different production areas. This gives fruit from Yunnan a competitive edge on the market.
