Turkey: Hailstorms and heavy rain damaged production fields in Bilecik

Heavy rain and following hailstorm caused significant damage in the production fields in Bilecik, a city located in northwestern Turkey. The damaged area is estimated to be around 3 million square feet and the main damaged crops were watermelon, melon, tomato and wheat.

City officials continue their efforts to get an accurate estimate of the damage whereas growers are waiting anxiously to see whether the state will offer any help to recoup their losses.

The loss of crops was especially painful as the growers were expecting a high volume of products and there is a fear in the area that a lot growers will go bankrupt as a result of this natural disaster.
