Colombia: The first Hass avocados for Costa Rica leave Tolima

The department of Tolima has 178 Hass avocado farms registered for fresh export.

"The shipment left the municipality of Cajamarca, destined for the packing plant of the company Eurofresh, located in the city of Manizales. Once the product is packed under strict conditions to preserve its quality and safety, it is transported by land to the Maritime Port of Cartagena, from where its shipped to the city of Puerto Limon, in Costa Rica," stated the ICA in an official communication.

40 families currently have an approximate production capacity of 200 tons per year.

"For the ICA it is gratifying to see that the help we're giving to the producers in our department is having the expected results. Producers are more and more committed to exporting to international markets. We continue working hand in hand with AGUACATEC and other associations and producers throughout the department of Tolima, in the implementation of the Operational Work Plan for the export to the United States and the opening of new markets," said Freddy Mauricio Ruiz Hurtado, the leader of the Hass Avocado project of the ICA sectional Tolima.
