New concept for buildings at wholesaler market in Sendling

There is a lot going on at wholesaler market Sendling! A long-term resident has worked out an alternative concept for the new building, in coordination with Munich's politicians and together with other marketers. The new building concept gives the wholesale marketers planning security and enables swift implementation.

The CSU and SPD were presented with a concept for a new construction of the Grossmarkthalle on an alternative location, in the south of the Grossmarkt area. Accordingly, a new hall would be constructed on properties east of the Schäftlarnstraße, on the current site of the Umschlagzentrum Großmarkt Munich GbR, across from heat and power plant Munich-South. The new approach is the result of regular meetings of trader representatives, the municipal department, politicians and local traders and our site initiative. The UGM GbR has been based at the traditional location in Sendling for many years and is very familiar with the needs of the dealership and all the conditions.

A first census among marketers on the wholesale market shows a positive reaction from all the dealers. "The idea is as simple as it is logical: the new building at the new location allows the operation of the wholesale market to be completed. So the traders only have to move once. Costs are reduced, time is saved and our nerves are spared. The build designs give us much-needed planning security," says Günther Warchola, supporter of the initiative and president of the Bavarian Fruit Trade Association.

Furthermore, the plans open up completely new possibilities for the use of the old wholesale market area in a prime location for residential, commercial, leisure, infrastructure, cultural and social purposes. "The wholesale market opens up to the public and can make Sendling a more colourful and lively district, where work and leisure can merge. Now it is up to the city of Munich to look at the new concept and quickly set the right course," said Marco di Maggio, supporter of the initiative and managing director of Apimex Fruchthandels GmbH.
