BLE Marktbericht KW24/18

A lot of movement in the cherry market

Supplies increased, in particular the presence of the German lots grew considerably. But Spanish, Italian and Turkish shipments also accumulated. In some places, demand could not keep pace with the increased supply.

Furthermore, quality was not always optimal: the Italian Ferrovia did not really taste good in Berlin, small French Bigarreau suffered from fruit flies in Munich, Bulgarian imports were too soft in Hamburg and in Cologne the organoleptic properties of the Southern European offerings did not suit the customers. As a result of larger supplies, the focus was now on larger products from 30 mm +.

Smaller calibers often saw dropping prices. In the south of Germany, only a few appealing domestic goods were to be found; massive rainfall caused the fruit to burst on the trees after a prolonged warm period. The interest was quite okay, but falling prices could very rarely be avoided. In Berlin, however, the ratings for crisp, deep red Baden berries rose to almost € 8,- per kg.
