Chinese inspectors look into possibilites of Ukrainian cherry exports

Inspectors from the People's Republic of China visited the Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhya and Kherson regions last week, to get acquainted with the features of growing, storing, packing and phytosanitary procedures for Ukrainian sweet cherries.

The purpose of the visit was to look into the possibility of future exports of Ukrainian industrial cherries for the Chinese market. The UKRSADPROM Association, provided the recommendation of selected growers for inspection.

"The purpose of the visit is to provide the analysis of the phytosanitary risk of the Ukrainian cherries during the export to the People's Republic of China and to make a protocol of phytosanitary requirements. This, in turn, will enable Ukrainian cherries to be exported to China in a safe way and in accordance with the phytosanitary requirements noted in the Protocol. Ukrainian fruits and berries are exported to more than 30 countries," said Volodymyr Lapa, Head of the Ukrainian State Service for Food Safety and Consumer Protection.

"We have been in negotiations with China the last three years concerning the export of the Ukrainian cherries to China. In fact, since the creation of the Association, the process of coordination of phytosanitary control procedures has been initiated. The Association is actively contributed to maximizing the speed of this process," said UKRSADPROM Association Chairman, Dmytro Kroshka.
