India: Cremica Food Park steps in to help farmers

Cremica Food Industries has developed Cremica Food Park with the Mega Food Park Scheme, under the Ministry of Food Processing Industries with an investment of 1.2 billion across 20 hectares of land in Una (Himachal Pradesh) to facilitate the processing of fruits and vegetables.

Anticipating a bumper crop of tomatoes in June 2018, the Cremica Agri team has been working closely with local farmers, helping in farming and processing of various fruits and vegetables in the state of Punjab.

Considering the higher production of tomatoes and to save the farmers from distress sales of the produce, Cremica worked tirelessly with suppliers over last 60 days and in record time it has successfully conducted live trials ahead of the schedule to help the farmers. 5,000 plus tonnes of tomatoes have been purchased from the farmers and processed at state-of-the-art India's largest tomato processing line in Cremica's Food Park at Una. The food processing is expected to be formally starting the operations in the next three months.

Once fully operational, Cremica Food Park will be in a position to process 50,000 tonnes of tomatoes and 15,000 tonnes of other fruits and vegetables, giving a major boost to the local economy and contribute significantly to the company's topline.

Speaking about Cremica's future plans, Mr Akshay Bector, Chairman and Managing Director, Cremica Foods, said, "Through the Una Food Park, which will be operational by September 2018, we are hopeful that this plant will play a significant role in helping the farmers and consumers by stabilizing the tomato prices across India, with a processing capacity of 650 tonnes per day."
