Caused by a shortage of watermelons and high transport costs

China: Watermelon prices relatively high

Watermelons are the top fruit choice in a hot summer but the price will gradually fall when midsummer arrives. This time last year, the price of watermelons in Xi'an was only 0.6-0.8 Yuan. While this year, the price remained at 1.5-2 yuan per Jin. Why has the price remained so high? The main reasons are that the extreme weather at the beginning of the year caused a shortage of supply and there has been an increase in transport costs.

This year, the production volume of watermelons is not good. The supply is limited. On the one hand, the cultivation area of last year was too big and prices remained low. This year, the cultivation area reduced. On the other hand, the snow and wind at the beginning of the year damaged watermelon greenhouses. The seedlings died and in some areas there was no harvest at all.
