Italy: Di Meo Remo acquires new production areas
"We have recently acquired a new company covering 11 hectares, 4 of which are open fields. This way, we will increase our production of aromatic herbs focused on a fully-sustainable closed cycle processes," explains Remo Di Meo.

The company was established over 20 years ago and now needs to meet the new trends. It was established as a nursery in 1994 and recently started the fresh, potted and cut aromatic herb business. It treats them like vegetables, following protocols and making them therefore compliant with food security and traceability standards."

The new facility will become fully operational next spring. In the meantime, production is being converted to organic. "The most ambitious objective will be to become self-sufficient when it comes to energy and to recover all the water used. Our produce is already traceable, and our next step will be to obtain zero impact by employing the most advanced technologies available."

To acquire these technologies, Remo has often had to go abroad to countries such as Belgium and Holland. "We are interested in standardising the entire process and offering the maximum quality. The aromatic herb sector has a lot of potential, not only for food consumption, but also to extract essential principles."

Although still not fully operational, the new facility already handled 350 thousand pots since January 2018.
