Exports to North Africa dropped in 2017

In 2015, Italy exported over 250 thousand tons of produce to North Africa (Egypt, Libya and Algeria). It was a very good result, considering that only 20 thousand tons had been exported in 2007. However, due to political instability, only 80 thousand tons were exported in 2017.



The data presented by the Cso revealed that Italian exports to India, China and Taiwan grew to 40 thousand tons. It also exported 50 thousand tons to North America. However, these figures are rather small, if we consider that the market is a global one and that Italy is in dire need to export. Last year, Italy exported 3.83 millions of tons. Of these, 1.1 million tons were destined to Germany.



Exports to France increased by 10% in 2017, reaching 365 thousand tons. Poland occupies the third place with 210 thousand tons, followed by Australia.



A fifth (20%) of all exports come from Emilia-Romagna, a region that produces 11% of the domestic fresh produce value with 120 thousand hectares and approximately 22 thousand producers.

The region produces 70% of Italian pears, 36% of industry tomatoes, almost 30% of peaches and nectarines and 25% of kiwis. Half of the companies are part of POs.
