Urban greens company adds another new facility

Agtech company Gotham Greens is expanding again.

The Brooklyn, NY-based urban greenhouse company is opening another greenhouse, this time a 100,000 square-foot one based in Baltimore, Md. This is on top of the other expansion announced recently, a second location in Chicago, Ill. and is in addition to the three existing greenhouses in New York City. Both the second location in Chicago and the Baltimore facility are expected to open early next year.

Gotham's existing Chicago facility

“The new facility in Baltimore will allow us to expand to the mid-Atlantic region, a part of the country we haven’t previously serviced,” says Nicole Baum of Gotham. After all, Gotham Green’s urban greenhouses, which grow a variety of lettuce and herbs including arugula, iceberg, basil, bok choy and many more, are designed to service local markets and the Baltimore facility will supply the Maryland and the Washington, DC markets.

Meeting and greeting at United Fresh
This is just one of the new initiatives the company will promote at the United Fresh 2018 show taking place in Chicago June 25-27th.

“We’re looking to United Fresh as an opportunity to talk to buyers, attract new retailers and meet connect with everyone face to face,” says Baum. “United Fresh has historically been a great opportunity to get in front of new buyers and visit with our existing customer base.”

Gotham Greens will also display its new line of pestos including a classic, vegan and spicy varieties. The pestos, made with Gotham’s Genovese Basil (one of the company’s most popular items) are made locally in each city Gotham operates in. “Our basil is very popular with a strong following so it was a natural product extension,” adds Baum.
