Safe Food For Canadians Regulations released
The Canadian Produce Marketing Association (CPMA) applauds the work of government and industry culminating in the release today of the new Safe Food for Canadians Regulations (SFCR). CPMA has worked closely with industry and government during the consultative period and firmly supports the Government's objective of ensuring a safe food supply chain for Canadians while ensuring the competitiveness of industry both domestically and abroad.
"The federal government has shown tremendous leadership in developing these new food safety regulations,” said CPMA President Ron Lemaire. "The new SFCR present Canada's most significant overhaul of food safety regulations in its history. This was achieved through close collaboration between government and the entire agri-food supply chain to ensure that Canadians enjoy one of the safest food supplies in the world.”
CPMA will review and monitor the new regulations and will support industry implementation and compliance. CPMA will also continue to advocate for regulatory harmonization, where appropriate, between the new SFCR and the U.S. Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) in order to facilitate trade with our largest trading partner.
