Open Day dedicated to red apricots at Vivai F.lli Zanzi
The Open Day organised by Vivai F.lli Zanzi in collaboration with IPS International Plant Selection on 12th June 2018 focused on the Rubilis, Rubissia and Rubely apricot varieties. They are part of the Rubyngo family.

"This year, the spring frost caused a loss in production for a few early varieties. Ripening is generally one week late," explained Enrico Zanzi.
The rootstock used is Mirabolano 29C and orchards are four years old. Rubulis have good grades. It's best to harvest when fully ripe or as ripe as possible as otherwise the skin is rather acidic.
Rubissia has a +5 ripening compared to Rubilis. It is more aromatic with a deeper flavour and harvesting can be slightly early as the skin is not acidic. Plants are vigorous and rootstocks used are GF. Production easily reaches 30 tons per hectare.

"We recommend using the Spindel growing technique because it generates uniform grades. In addition, harvesting is easier therefore reducing labour costs. Production is also earlier than with traditional techniques."
Together with Edwige Remy from IPS, the over 150 guests could also inspect the third variety - Rubely. It ripens in late June, has a good aroma and is very productive with peaks of 35/40 tons per hectare. "The Rubyngo range includes varieties that cover all ripening periods, so the ripening calendar can be completed using exclusively red varieties."
