Peru: The obstacles that affect the logistics sector should be eliminated
According to Juan Varilias Velasquez, president of the Association of Exporters (ÁDEX), authorities need to work to eliminate the logistical obstacles that affect the development of Peruvian foreign trade and the placement of more Peruvian products abroad.
Varilias Velasquez said that the logistical cost overruns increased final prices and led to a loss of competitiveness.
"It is necessary to implement regulations that reduce logistic cost overruns that are always paid by exporters and importers," he said.
In addition, he stated that it was essential to recover the security of the international logistics chain and to avoid contamination of the cargo with drugs, mainly in the ports of Callao and Paita, as well as in the Jorge Chavez airport.
He also called on the authorities to solve the congestion in the accesses to the port and the airport of Callao.
According to Varilias, the optimization of logistics processes is a great challenge that demands the joint work of companies and authorities.
In particular, of those linked to the management of transport, operation, and administration of port and airport infrastructures, as well as of institutions related to foreign trade.
