Honduras will send melons to Chile and South Korea this year

According to Cesar Pino the representative of the Agricultural Health Service (Senasa), a dependency of the Ministry of agriculture and livestock (SAG), Honduran producers plan to export their melons to the South Korea market.

The authorities have already sent the documentation required for the entry of melons, and the goal is that a Korean audit commission will go to Honduras in December to review the production processes, specifically on farms in the southern zone.

In addition, a delegation from Chile would also visit the country that month to check if the Montelibano and Santa Rosa melon farms are free of the Mediterranean fly, an essential requirement demanded by the international market.

The government from Honduras and producers are confident that they will meet the demands of Koreans and Chileans to export the fruit.

Cesar Pino said he was optimistic, especially because the recent acceptance and recognition by Mexico and Taiwan will help them obtain the approval of South Korea and Chile.
